Origins

Founded in 2016 by two VCU philosophy faculty (Tony Bolos and Donald Smith), Scholé House originated from rich conversations with students in classes and at coffee shops around campus. Partnering with VCU’s chapter of BCM, Scholé House took up residence on BCM’s Third Floor where students, faculty and community members could engage and participate in thoughtful conversations about the Christian tradition through lectures, reading groups, and communal gatherings.

Topics ranged from “The Problem of Evil” to “Early Egyptian Christianity” to “Bach’s Theology of Music.” These events were well attended by students, faculty and community members, and helped Scholé House serve as a gathering place for exploring a Christian vision for human flourishing in an age of distraction and division.
